Pro-Am Report from Phil Barrett
Friday 6th July 2018 was the culmination of many months of endeavour to organise what is the biggest event in the Clubs’ calendar. We have enjoyed a good measure of success over recent years and this year was no exception! Slightly down on team entries this year but without doubt one of our most enjoyable, according to participants, club players and Professionals alike!
Perfect Course Conditions
Given the recent hot weather, and lack of rain, the course was in incredible condition due to some very attentive and knowledgeable management in recent weeks by Jeff and the green staff, Great job lads.
We had great support on the course particularly from the Ladies, most welcome, offerings of delightful snacks and drinks on the 9th tee. Thank you Ladies. The competitors really needed some extra sustenance out there and the sight of the Tolchards/ Taunton Cider bar,on the 14th tee, coming into view down the 13th fairway was a very welcome and popular resting point.
The golf continued onto our testing final few holes with displays of some very special golf being played. Those that did not continue as well as they would have liked were still rewarded, on the 18th tee , with a very appealing Martin Millers gin and tonic!
Food, Drink and the Putting Competition
After the round was completed there was the very popular putting competition taking place in front of the clubhouse . There was a very convivial atmosphere in the clubhouse and on the terrace which was greatly enhanced by the excellent running hot and cold buffet available to all participants and volunteers.
The prize giving was very well attended at our predicted time of 8.00pm. It was really gratifying to note that a team from T&P took the main prize in spite of strong competition from teams outside the Club. It just goes to show that T&P members teams stand a good a chance as any to share in the many prizes on offer!
Raising Funds for Charity
We mustn’t forget that the Captains Charity ,Parkinson’s South-West, will benefit, by several thousand pounds. (Pictured above are Julie Patterson from the charity with Ladie’s Captain Jeanne Leader). The key to the success of the event is undoubtedly the team effect of all sections of the Club working together for the common good.
Thanks to our Sponsors
Without doubt, each year, the willingness and generosity of our sponsors is essential to getting the Pro-Am off the ground and formulating the portrayal of a professional image that reflects our Club.
We are extremely grateful to our main sponsor Eric Gibbs of Gibbs Plumbing Supplies Limited and John Riches of Vale Labels of making it possible for us to achieve our aspirations. This, of course, is supported by the many other sponsors, individuals and suppliers that enable us to create the event as we would want to.
If you didn’t get involved this year, please think about participating in someway next year, it really is a worthwhile and fun event to promote your Club at its best! The date is FRIDAY 12th JULY 2019.
Final Notes from the Club Captain
This year’s Pro-Am has been a huge success and was delivered with the usual professionalism of the organising committee. These events do not run on their own and I would like to personally thank the main lynchpins of the committee for all their hard work. Phil Barrett, Barrie Foster and Angela Hollis strive tirelessly behind the scenes every year to ensure this tournament continues to be a premier event within the South-West.
On behalf of myself and the Ladies’ Captain, Jeanne Leader, I would like to thank everybody for supporting this year’s very worthy charity. I know Parkinson’s South-West will be thrilled by all your efforts.
